1980 kz750 carb fitment
20 Aug 2007 23:33
so i have a 750 that i just bought and took the carbs off to check em out, after my little trial inspection i went to put them back on and they won't fit! the side with the butterflys that plugs into the black rubber ports isn't fitting. i can get either the two on the left or the two on the right in all the way, however, when i go to tighten the other side the side already in pops out. whats happening, i don't see them hitting anywhere and they all appear to be straight.

I had the problem once too, you have a piece on the rack hitting the bulge in the center of valve cover. If I remember right it was the piece with the spring behind it that holds the idle adjuster. If I can get onto kawasaki.com I'll post a pic.

If the gentleman who posted this query has a twin, the carburetor assembly will look a tad different than the pic... they are Mikuni BS series constant velocity carbs. If the bike is a four cylinder, then the carbs are going to be Keihin CV34 constant velocity.
If the problem DID NOT occur before swapping the throttle, I would check for cable routing and also grease the bar under the throttle. This seems the most likely reason that the rpms are hanging when the throttle is released. You may also have a carb holder clamp bracket turned some and the screw contacts the sync mechanism on the carb assembly.

problem solved, i took the tank off and found that somewhere in the middle the rubber grommets were hitting the throttle linkage. i just couldn't see it with the tank on.

Good... in the future, if you have questions, I suggest you edit your PROFILE so that your signature reflects your bike year/model and even your location in the event you have a local KZRider member near you who might be available to help.
