kz 400 - no power after 5000 rpm's
13 Aug 2007 22:19
i got the 400 running pretty good, but when i go to accelerate there is no power after 5000 rpm's. I am cleaning the air filter right now, ill put it in tomorow, and see if it changes anything. I think it might be time for a can of seafoam. Or could my ignition advancer be sticking????

no, im definatly getting fuel. im going to check timing, and that my ignition advancer is working properly. I think i was on the right track with seafoam. Seafoam is the answer to everything carb related, atleast in my experiance. My girlfriend actually bought me seafoam for chrismas, like cousin eddy says in national lampoons chrismas vacation, "clark thats the gift that keeps on giving".

Well, I'm definitely with you on the Seafoam - I'm a recent convert and now a full believer after what it did to my bikes.
But remember, right at that RPM, two things are going on (or have already happened): in the carbs, you're off the pilot system and into the main, and the advancer has moved to full advance. Check out both those things...

well after running the bike with seafoam for 50 miles or so it runs beter, but still hesitates at high rpm's. I think i need point's and a condensor, because when i took off the point's cuver and fired it up it was arcing like crazy, and when i revved it up, the worse it got.

it's a solution used in marine, automotive, and deisel trucks. it's kinda a magic solution, if your carbs are gunked up or you need to decarbonize an engine this stuff works wonders. I put about 1/2 a can for everytank in a motorcycle. And a full can in a tank in a car or truck.

I put it in my bikes and it made them all run like crap after about 100 miles. That is, of course, because all my carbs were mis-adjusted to compensate for the years of varnish and debris in places of the carbs I never got to. Really, it cleaned them out good. So it made all of my bikes slowly start to run richer and richer (and still is) as it cleaned the carbs. It really is a lazy man's carb fix... it is awesome.
I buy it at AutoZone... for about $6 per little can...
New? No. Been around a long time, but I never believed the hype.OK, gotta ask - what the heck is seafoam?
