kz650 carb issue
11 Aug 2007 07:54
Hi people!Im currently putting together a 77 650.Ive picked up 3 of these bikes for parts to build one.I am working on the carbs and I have one set that is from a 77 and another set from a 79,I believe. The newer set has a fuel pump the older has none! Are the bowls and parts interchangable? If so do i want to use the set that has air screws for adjustment or the one with no adjustment.I dont want the fuel pump Right???Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!Thanx

What you are refering to is the accelerator pump. Mine has one. Mine has "air" screws on the top/side and the older ones have "pilot" screws. I could be wrong but I believe the bowels, caps are interchangable. I think most internals are too (jets, etc) Someone will pipe in and corect me if I'm wrong.

I've got a 77 650 C-1 and have basically done the same thing you are thinking about. When I first got the bike the carbs were all gummed up from sitting for 15 years with old gas in them:sick:  . I had a set of clean pumper carbs I had just picked up off Ebay so I put them on in order to get the bike running, well it ran, but it ran like sheite. Over the winter I cleaned up the original set and the bike likes them much better.
Remember the 77's were pre emissions bikes so the factory could just set them up where they ran the best. The pumper carbs were a band-aid so they could meet emmissions and still have some form of driveability. My advice would be to use the older carbs if at all possible.
