Hi guys,
While trying to dial in my carbs, I set all the air screws to 1 1/4 from lightly seated. It sounded like it was only running on 3 cyl with the 4th one trying. I noticed On carb #1 that when I turned the AIR screw it didn't make a difference. So I pulled the carbs to make sure nothing was clogged by using lots and lots of air. I put the carbs back on and it did the same thing but this time when I was turnig the screw I noticed in one place where if I applied a little pressure (pushed screw driver in)the cyl came to life and the engine smothed out. Not perfect but smoother. The air needles and springs are all new.
Any idea's?

Thanks

Do you have any "O" rings on those screws? Do they need to be replaced?

You can get a small Viton "O" ring kit from Harbor Freight.

Generally I do not use compressed air in the "smaller" air passages in carb cleaning/rebuilding projects. I'm always afraid of forcing particles into unreachable areas.
Maybe you have stipped threads on your air screws.

Might try swapping #1 and #4 air screws to see if the problem moves to #4 cylinder. If so, may indicate a damaged o-ring or other defect in #1 air screw.

Good Luck! :)

Would be remiss if failed to mention should first attend to all other tune-up items before addressing the carbs. Such as new plugs, correct ignition timing, (gap and set points, if applicable), proper spark, good well-charged battery, proper battery voltage at idle and at 4000 rpm, check and adjust valve clearances, check compression. If all non-carb components are up to specs, and carb still doesn't react to air screw adjustment, possibly a problem in the pilot circuit or float bowl fuel level. :)

I'm thinking possibly you have a leaking carb insulator
[ intake boot ] on that cyl & when you push the screw driver,it seals up & the cyl wakes up. If you have a vac
gauge you can hook up to each cyl by way of the synchronize port on each carb & compare the readings at different rpms. It's not accurate enough to set the carbs but you will see a big drop on the dead cyl if the boot is leaking

I like your music. Kinda like skynard mixed with the allman bros

Thanks guys.
I'll try swapping to see if that makes a difference. I should have mentioned that I just got finished doing a full tune up including new rings and hone, valve adj, timing check, new plugs and carb rebuild.
My battery is not the greatest and I haven't replaced the coils and wires yet.

Hey outatimeoutlaw, thanks for checkig out our stuff. I'm getting ready to upload the current songs that'll be on the album...(CD) lol
