carb upgrade? was created by rdgrnr
I'm doing a frame-off restoration on a my 79 LTD 1000. I have it completely stripped to the frame. I work at a plating shop so the restoration will be easier on the wallet. I'm not sure if I should upgrade the carb set-up or re-jet. I currently have a set of VM26's that didn't perform well at low or high RPMs, but were decent at mid-range. I am running a 4-1 Kerker, and plan on pods. I don't plan on putting anything else on for performance as of right now. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Mark for the thread info. I read thru it and found myself getting lost in terminology. I guess what I really need to know is; what do I need to do to the jets to make them work for the mods? To me it seems the current setup is not working.
Thanks

u need to find out if the carbs want more or less fuel.u say they dont run right low and high.we need more info.as u are riding slow u can turn on the choke to see if it runs better or worse.u can also try removeing the air filter to see if it likes more air.this will tell u wich way to go.check the plugs and see if they are black(rich )or white(lean).most of your driveing will be on the pilot jets.turn the pilots air screws in gently till seated and write down how many turns it took (eg.1/2 ,3/4 ,1 1/2)then u can turn them all in or out a 1/4 turn at a time and see wich it likes best.
