Compatible Float Needles was created by KZQ
Hey Guys,

Got a problem with a weepy carb float. MaKaw wants $40.00 for a new one and that one will look just like this one. My concern is that metal on metal is not what I want. Can any of you point me in the correct direction to purchase a replacement needle that has a neoprene or nitrile tip that will seal better?

TIA
KZCSI

Viton is superior to neoprene or nitrile for gasoline, and is the only viable rubber option.

Hi Loud,

I'm not looking to make my own needle. I was only hoping that one of the members here might say: "hey that looks like the needles in my carbs."

Thanks for the info though.

Hey KZ:

Those DO look like the needle and seat out of a Honda.

Don't know about sizes though. It's been a while, but it seems. like I remember the needle and seat out of a Honda Lawn mower also fit the carb for my 68 sl90. And they have rubber tips. It's a long shot, but I bet if you catch the lawn mower shop in a good mood they might let you measure. I think some kits have a clip for the float to needle and some don't, so you'd have to check.

Hey JJ,

I'm not proud. If it takes the needle out of a Hilda lawnmower to make my 1300 whole, I'm all over it.

Thanks

Slight correction... The seats on the lawn mower sets screw in. They have threads on them. So you would only be able to use the needle. Is the seat bad, or do you just have a ridge on the needle? Sure wish WG would jump in here and set me on my ear. So how 'bout it?

I only need the needle. Can you give me a model number for the mower?

Thanks

It's been quite a while, but I think the one that worked was off a 6.5 horse vertical shaft engine. I was in a good position to shop. My grandfather had a repair shop and I helped him in the summers. So I just sorted through the rebuild kits. If you have to buy the whole kit, they're pretty spendy, but I think you can get just needle and seat sets.

UPDATE:

So far looks like the Honda needles are a bit shorter than for Kaws.

However I did come across these guys who could maybe set you up.

crc2onlinecatalog.com/misc_carb_parts.htm

I you scroll down the needles are near the bottom of the page.;)

They have pictures of all the needles and mightcould compare them for you. Kaw needle cost: 4.95

Hi JJ,
I couldn't tell if those needles have rubbers or not. I ordered three any way. I'll let you know as soon as they arrive.

Thanks for doing that research.

Bill

all metal needles i ever run across i cleaned up with fine steel wool (provided the tip was still in shape) and cleaned out the inside of the needle seat the same way.
seems to work fine.
