Do you mean the slide. The cylindrical part that goes up and down and has the needle through it?? Sounds like no matter what you need to remove the carbs and in that case post a pic of the part in question.

no, the starter plunger which connects to the choke assembly

Well it worked BEFORE you rebuilt the carbs, right?

So it sounds like you may have assembled it wrong. Did you put the forked thing between the two washers on the plunger?

Sounds like its time to do it over:P

I'm not being a smart-a$$...I can't think of any other reason for the problem.

the bike has been parked the better part of 2 years. I didn't really check if it was stuck, the carbs have been apart for a couple weeks. See the weird thing is that the other side works perfectly

There was gas in the well that the plunger sits in or perhaps some moisture. I can't remember exactly how the plunger on the little Keihin carb is assembled but take off the plastic thing that the actuating arm picks up... probably a small circlip holding the plastic on. Then squirt some PB Blaster or Kroil into the hole where the plunger is stuck and let it sit a bit. Then take some vise grips and put on the plunger arm (TRY NOT TO SCORE UP THE METAL!!!) and twist the plunger working it back and forth to break the goo that is holding it. Once you can work the plunger back and forth, you will be able to pull it out. You may have to remove the actuating arm to get it out... I would remove it and clean it good and clean out the well with spray carb cleaner... there is a hole in the bottom of the well... make sure gas can get through that hole using the spray cleaner because it will likely be plugged and that is where gas gets picked up for the choke (enrichener) circuit.

The choke lever on that carb says choke but the function is to enrichen the start up circuit... on other types of carbs, there is a butterfly or flap that closes off the intake venturi, like on a car carburetor and these are actual chokes... the shut off airflow causes the starting mixture to be richer. This type system is used on the CV34 and and other Keihin CV and CVK carbs. When a plunger is used, like on these Keihin carbs (CVB36 I think), or most Mikunis, the circuit actually enrichens and doesn't choke but all of them will say choke on the knob or lever.
