carb gaskets for 1981 CSR 650
17 Jul 2007 10:23
Guys.... HELP!!!
After getting the old CSR running and thinking I wouldn't need to pull the carbs I have gas pouring out of the overflows and air intake box after riding. I think the float needles are not seating.
So I have to tear down the carbs now. But I can't find any gaskets kits. At a minimum I'll need a set of bowl gaskets. Any ideas where I can find some?
I looked on EBAY... they have up to 79... but none for an 81...
Any ideas?

The bowl gaskets for all VM24 carbs are the same. Z1enterprises.com carries them.

According to Kawasaki even the same gaskets were used on 1976-1980 KZ900 and KZ1000 carbs as well as all models of KZ650. I never replace the gaskets unless they are damaged, 95% of the time no need to replace them.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Thanks guys. My gaskets are still in one piece but I asumed that since gas was flowing out the bowls that the gaskets were bad. I think something is screwy with the overflow lines though.
IF I count carbs from left to right when facing forward.... carb 1 has an overflow line out the bottom of the bowl. carb 2 has (2) overflow lines one that attached to the overflow connection on bowl 3 and one that connects to overflow bowl 4.
I know the bowls are all connected via those small (1/8") lines... but should the overflow lines from the 3 bowls be connected? It seems like each carb should have an overflow line.

On an accelerator pump assembly on the #2 carb bowl body, there is a standard 6mm drain screw and an overflow barb. This is a brass barb just like the other carbs except it is located on the side of the bowl (on right side with carbs mounted on bike) and not on the bottom. The barb itself looks exactly like the overflow barbs on the other carb bowls.

Guys thanks so much for your help thus far. I hate to keep this post going but I am going crazy here.
My #2 bowl is kind of odd and doesn't follow your coments. There are (2) brass spigots coming out of the bottom of the bowl #2 and not one. One is straight down and one comes out at an angle. They both look like overflow spigots. The former owner had one spigot connected to overflow from bowl # 3 and the other spigot was connected to overflow spigot # 4. Is this the cirrect way to connect the overflow lines?
Also,,,, my number 2 carb is missing the vacuume sensor cover, spring and diaphram. There is nothing there except the (3) empty threaded holes where the cover goes. The former owner removed it for some reason. Is theis bad? can I run it without this vaccume sensor?

That barb that is on the bottom was installed in the drain screw hole and shouldn't be there. As noted, the bottom cover is missing and the screws that are holding the top cover came from Home Depot and ruined the thread on the holes up there that should normally retain three 4mm JIS screws. I suspect that the owner of that bowl had some sort of cap over the lower home-made fuel barb...

You are right about the drain screw side... I have no idea why someone would drill a second hole and put a 2nd barb in. It shouldn't be there nor can I think why it would be needed.
