idle problems was created by voodooschild
i bought an 82 kz650 (csr) recently and will post pics at a later date ..
my problem atm is the bike does not idle without the choked applied .
runs great otherwise and im thinking since it sat for a while the pilot jets are plugged ..
just posting here for hopefully some verification ..
i take it the standard procedure in the middle of riding season is to order 4 gaskets from z1 enterprizes and pop off those bowls and pull out and clean the pilot jets and the path for fuel into and out of them then reassemble and pray ?

ive never worked on a bs32 as all my carb expieience has been on larger carbs ..
anything else i need to look out for ?
specific to the bs 32 that is ?

thanks in advance :)

You don't have a choke on your bike... you have an enrichment circuit. A choke involves a butterfly to shut and choke off air changing the air/fuel mixture towards the fuel side by choking off air. The enrichener circuit on your bike is allowing the bike to idle because the pilot system is plugged. Use some new pilot jets (#37.5 BS30/96 type with the stock airbox) and clean passageways associated with the pilot system. You should be able to squirt carb cleaner into the pilot air jet and see it come out the little hole on the engine side venturi in front of the throttle butterfly.

Thanks for the clarification on the choke/enrichment circuit.
i take it you're advising me to change the pilots jets and not clean them because either 1 there a bastard to clean ?
or 2 because i've seen in similar threads where you tell people who complain about their bikes being cold blooded that they need to step up a size on the pilots ?

btw how do those little brush kits from z1 work for cleaning the small passageways or is there a chance i can find something local ..
i know i'm not even going to think about buying gaskets from the local dealer (they wanted 45 bucks for an air filter ) .
Once again thanks WG.

best place to buy these jets ?

well the dealer ended up being the only place in town with the jets .. at 2.50 each i guess i cant complain too much about the price .
nobody has float bowl gaskets though ..
so ill pull em off and pray , maybe have to make one of my own worse case scenario .

The pilot jets on your bike will work fine if they are 100 percent clear. OFTEN, you can't clear them... even with the right tools... stuff just stays in the hole and the hole can look clean. The flow pattern is thrown off if there are deposits in the jet. I have tried cleaning pilot jets in the past... soak them then blow them out and this works on some but not others. Z1E sells a WIRE kit where the wires have fine serrations and these WILL clean deposits BUT they tend to enlarge the jet. IF you have a stock airbox and jump the pilot jet size up one size, you run the risk of sooting plugs but if you are careful not to idle the bike too long, you will be Ok. The larger pilots will allow faster warm up and easier starting. Z1E carries the jets you need.

thanks again for the info bro ..
i found the jets at the dealer for a decent price and the wire tool z1 sells is basically a tip cleaner that should be available from any welding supplies dealer ..
i was trying to think where the hell i have i seen that tool ..
rofl!!! it was in my tools at work .
a cheaper dealer closer to me had both 35s and 40s ..
i chose to 37.5 thinking your first advice the most sound :)
thanks again man
