Hose Size was created by Wamphyri86
Hi, I know this topic has probably been discussed in the site, but after searching I haven't been able to find an answer. What is the ID and OD measurements for the fuel lines on a 1978 KZ1000A2 with VM26 carbs? Also if you were going to put all new hoses on, how much would you need to be on the safe side and not run out?

Thanks
Wamp

Stock size fuel line 6.5mm ID, 11.5mm OD. Don't expect to find this hose anywhere in the world though. Replace with 1/4" ID hose, but don't expect to find it locally unless you don't mind having 1/4 ID and 3/4" OD high pressure automotive crap. After extensive searching I found Bikebandit.com sells a selection of thin wall fuel line in 1/4" ID. You buy by the 25ft or 50ft lengths or you can order the original Kaw fuel lines for about $45 each.

Geez Ron you make it sound so hard!LOL. I just got to a bike store I used to work at and buy a foot for 2 dollars. They work on UJM's so they always have it on stock. To Wamp, I would just check out any bike store or automotive, and ask for fuel hoses and they will hopefully give you some examples. If your bike is running let them see what size they need on the bike, if not just carry the tank, with the petcock still attached most likely. Good luck!

Actually, it's easy to get the wrong stuff. The bike shop by me sells vinyl tubing as fuel line. That's about the worst stuff you can use. Not only that, they charge about $5 a foot for the same stuff Home Depot sells at 25 cents a foot.

Stay away from urethane (definitely don't use vinyl). Black rubber (Viton?) seems to work the best without breaking down. Many places sell urethane fuel lines, but urethane is only borderline acceptable for fuel, and breaks down after a year or so. Especially avoid the blue urethane unless you want the inside of your carbs to be coated with blue stuff.

I though I'd go to a motorcycle shop and pick some up as heck they've only used it basically on every motorcycle built since 1910. All the motorcycle shops I tried had the high pressure automotive crap. I could go to Checkers and buy that! If you find it at the dealer you did better than I did.

Naaaa, no dealer, I stay away from them most of the time. It's just an independant bike store. I did get the rubber hoses which have thicker walls than most I have come across, but its flexible and stretches easily over a fitting I am attaching it to.

I just go to the auto parts store and ask for fuel hose in the diameter I need. I also use screw clamps to keep any leaks from happening. It is around a buck a foot.....chris3

Here are the REALLY easy-to-use hose clamps:

This place sells hose also, although you can probably find the same type a Pep Boys. Ed
