thought it was a carb problum
05 Jun 2007 15:53
my buddy ken just bought a gpz550 for $200 that was a basket (kind of)
everything was there and the po swore it had a stage 3 dyno kit in it.
after it was running (not well) it would not respond to any gas at all.
died right away.
pulled plugs and were way black like it was running way to rich.
pulled carbs and the pilots looked like they were either 64 or 84 and we knew factory was 34.
banging my head trying to figure out why this was happening.
either case, we got it running again and got it to respond to a little gas.
his boss finally figured it out.
while it was running and choking, he told him to pull the kerker muffler off.
freaking thing went to 8 grand and sounded real mean!
we looked in the muffler and found a damm mouse made his home in the header pipe!
we needed needle nose pliers to pull it out. runs like a champ now!
(and to think i passed this one up for $200)
just telling you all to say watch out for mickey!
that little bastard almost stumped me today!

That's a good one. Hopefully he had moved out before you got the bike. I was working on a VCR one time that had a mouse nest in it. The little guy would apparently open the cassette door and go in and open it to come out. I nice nest with a door to keep him all safe.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I pulled the baffle out of the Kerker on the bike I'm currently bringing back to life and found a stash of shelled peanuts...they were burnt but intact. I ran it without the baffle and blew some nuts out the muffler.
Hope there is nothing farther upstream I can't see.
