Vacuum petcock
03 Jun 2007 14:08
I have a vacuum petcock and it is done. I'm going to get a new one from Z1..
My bolt spacing is 44mm like this one 44mm petcock Though this one say's it's for Suzuki's. Will this work or do I have to buy 44mm petcock adapter plate and Petcock for adapter I would rather buy the stock replacement but I don't know if it will work. Has anyone used one of these on a Kz650? Also, what happens if I use the adapter plate and petcock without the vacuum line? Will it work properly or will I starve the bike for gas?

Hey vach,
Sorry but none of those links work for me.
"...what happens if I use the adapter plate and petcock without the vacuum line? Will it work properly or will I starve the bike for gas?"
If you're asking if you can use a regular petcock instead of the vacuum petcock, the answer is sure. I suggest that you cap off the vacuum line at the manifold to minimize any chance of a vacuum leak.
Good Luck

Cool, thanks... I can't get the links to work on that site for some reason. Only the home page. They have a replacement petcock that's 44mm, looks just like mine but it's for a Suzuki.. I'll just call and ask if it will fit. I'd rather have the stock replacenment if I could. If not I'll get the manual petcock and cap off the vacuum line..

I have a tank from a '78 KZ1000 A2A that I use on my LTD. It also has the vacuum petcock with 44mm spacing. The petcock leaks. I was going to repair it, but the refurb kit was $50+, and there's no guarantee it won't still leak after repair.
So I was about to order a new one of those Suzuki petcocks that Z1 has.
But then I stumbled upon a new OEM Kawi petcock at www.cheapcycleparts.com for $44.90. I ordered it last week, and am waiting for it to arrive. Amost seems too good to be true, so I'll save judgment until it arrives. I'll post again when it gets here.

Well, sure enough. It WAS too good to be true. I called CheapCycleParts this morning to check on my order. After looking it up, he came back and told me that the part has been discontinued.
So, back to plan A. Suzuki petcock from Z1.
