GPZ 1100B2 fuel infection problem
30 May 2007 07:23
Hi,
My bike stop after maybe 2 or 3 minute of running. Once it's get hot in fact.
I've start checking what could be the reason last night and saw that wire going to a sensor were cut. This is the sensor install on top of the air box. I presume it's an air sensor......
Part number is A25-000-004
Does somebody know if this could be solve my problem and is this parts still available?
Many thanks,
Joce

Some penicillin will kill that infection and stop the rnnning.
The sensor in the airbox on the 82 is for air temperature.
The computer uses engine temp, air temp, and throttle position to time the injectors which sets the mix.
With sensor connected, blue(pin 6 on control unit) to battery negative should read 0V with ignition off, 2-3V with switch on at 20C, 1.7-2.5V with switch on at 30C. Blue/red(pin 5) to battery negative should read 0V at all times. With sensor disconnected the blue at pin 6 should read 3.4-4.6V
AFAIK it should run rich(thinks air is cold) without the sensor but I could be wrong. I'm just getting around to putting my 82 GPz together.

Ok.
so from what I understand, since my air sensor is not functionnal, the computer think the air is cold but it is not. In result, the mix is not correct which result that the engine stop.
This would be so fun to resolve my problem in a easy way.
Does somebody hace a spare sensor for sale?

Joce:
Check with any Kawasaki shop to see if the part is still available...I suspect it is, as it was in use until 1989 in various models besides the GPz. The part number = 21176-1003 and should retail for about US$50.00.

Yes it is also used on the KZ1100B1, but I see from your signature that you have converted to carbs...why would you be worried about the air sensor?

mcdroid, i've got another bike coming and have a complete injection system with bad air sensor. winter project of making one carb and one injected. watched forum a while before joining. from what i've seen, wiredgeorge will be getting a call from me. i have some clutch questions also, but that will be down the road. thanks for the info. i'm in SW Missouri. last question for now. can the one way check valve returning to the fuel tank still be purchased from Kaw.

The mass flow sampling differs on the 81. I do not have my manual but IIRC it uses a flapper attached to a position sensor. The air density, which IIRC is a function of temperature to first order and humidity to 2nd, is sampled via the position of the flapper. I'll have to check the manual, not handy at the moment, but I do not recall any temp sensor other than the one in the head.

Are you speaking of the relief valve on the bottom of the fuel tank? 16130-1002? If so, then it is still available...just bought two through Jeff @ Z1Enterprises for about US$25.00 each (cheaper than Mother Kawasaki).
