my reserve is too reserved! was created by ToddBradley
Hi, everyone. I got an 84 KZ-550 LTD a couple months ago. This past Friday, while riding to work, I ran out of gas for the first time. When the engine stalled idling at a stoplight, I thought "no problem" and just flipped the fuel valve over to RES. I got the engine restarted and rode on, but another block down the road, it stalled again. Now that's the smallest reserve capacity I've ever heard of!
Does anyone have any suggestions for what might be wrong with the bike to cause the reserve to have such an incredibly small reserve?

Yup,Todd...running it that low,You were suckin crumbs out of the tank. You SHOULD be able to get at least another 25 miles out of reserve(don't quote me on that though).
Like mentioned...pull the tank and give it a flush.

Nates vintage bike axiom: Riding is the reward for time spent wrenching.
Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.

Yup. If you've never had the petcock out, now would be a good time. It's always possible someone removed the pipe.
