With the help of Peter and Shoe48 over in the twins forum, I've finally figured out what jet sizes are needed for this configuration. My sig line has the mods I've done and the jet sizes of 130 main and 50 pilot, no shims on the jet needle.
I had her out on the interstate today, 65mph@ 4700rpm :woohoo:. Other than a little hiccup @ around 3K, in second, she running like a scalded dog:). I still have't balanced them or fine tuned the pilot screw. It's looking good.

If anyone is interested, I'm becoming convinced that the 3Krpm "stumble" I mentioned above is due to pilot jet. I'm gonna try going up a size or two on the pilot jet. Other than that she's runnin' great.

Just put the 52.5 pilot jets in and the hesitation is gone. I guess, it's possible that you can get better efficiency by using smaller jets and shimming the jet needle but I'm happy that I now have it dialed in enough that I'm confident she's not gonna give me problems. I'm not saying these are the definitive settings, I still have to fine adjust the pilot screws and haven't balanced the carbs, but they are better than any that I've seen posted. I guess the next questions is, what the mileage is w/these big jets.

Sounds good Ron, I am planning on doing the same to my 82 M1. I am rebuilding the engine and carbs, and when I put it back in, I will have pods and a 2-1 exhaust. Do you think your jet setup would be a good starting point for me? the carbs are stock otherwise.
Oh and where is the "twins forum"?
Thanks,
Jay

Hi, Jay, I'd definitely think this is a good starting point and may save you a couple of $. I think I have most of the jets between stock and what I have now. I have the oval pods so maybe the smaller round ones would work w/smaller jets, don't know. I'm not sure if you have to drill out the slide hole either, but I'd already done that before I finally got it dialed in.
And the "twins forum" is Ibby's group at: www.armbell.com/forum/index.php?sid=7be7...146104b&mforum=kz400
nice people. Sorry for the long link.
good luck
Ron
