KZ900 Carb Identification was created by moonwell
Can anybody help me identify these carbs on my KZ900? They don't match up with anything in my manual or in
Z1's identification guide
. I measured them to be 29.3mm and they have the accelerator pump. Wish they would just stamp a model number on them somewhere

There is an ID mark on the flange of the outside carb where the carb inserts into the bracket that holds the carbs. What is it? Those are not VM29 smoothbores. There are some things about those carbs that make me think they are VM26 w/pump that have been line bored but the 26 pumpers used pilot mix screws (on bowl on engine side) and those have air screws. They are 79 or 80 carbs as the deep set air screws came out in 79. They have most likely been line bored to increase the venturi diameter.

Smoothbore has a jet block over which the throttle side moves up and down.
Do you have a pic from underneath with float bowl removed? Might see head of a small phillips screw used to hold jet block in place.
MEMO: Wiredgeorge cautions against removing the jet block as it invariably damages the delicate thin no-longer-available-virtually-impossible-to-duplicate gasket between the jet block and the carb body.
My 29's are as pictured on Z1E site, single large drain screw on bottom of float bowl, only a single fuel line attaching to a single fuel pipe joint located between the two inside carbs, and no accelerator pump.
Glad to learn about aluminum construction of smoothies and possibility of using different float bowls with overflow tubes.
EDIT: Posted before seeing WG's post. And in carb stuff, he more than qualifies as an expert witness.
