'79 MK2 Carb Parts

Well, I finally got the MK2 to the garage and have begun getting things in order. It seems to have stock jetting and carbs. I first had some difficulty that I could not get it to idle and it was pouring gas our of the carb drain tubes. So, I figured that the carbs needed to be rejetted. However, I found that the rod that goes to the accelerator pump was bent badly once they were removed. While I was taking it off, it broke. Any idea where I can get a new one?

Also, the drain bolts for the bowls seem stuck indefinitely...any ideas for that too?

Thanks for the help. The site has been very informative thus far.

i broke the little rod on a set of smoothbores about 20 years ago and managed to silver solder it back together and its still holding together.the drain screws could probably use a good soaking to loosen them up;)

How do you "silver" something?

I can solder? Is that the same or similar?

FWIW, I understand "silvering" as the process of letting the solder flow around a part (wires especially) until it "silvers" it. This can be done to wires, pipes, just about anything one can solder with either an iron or a torch.

Alright, very good I will give that a try. As for the bowl drain screws, they are soaking in some Aerokroil right now. Hopefully that will loosen them up.

The drain screws on those carbs are steel I think and likely galled in the aluminum bowls. The penetrating oil won't have much affect. You might want to heat them and put a large set of vise grips on them and turn them out. The steel screws are not as likely to snap as are the brass screws used in other models. Alternatively, if you have a hand impact driver, clean the slot with a small dremel cut off wheel and use a flat blade on the driver to break them loose.
