Jetting help please

Just wondering what jetting I should be using. My setup is KZ1000, 10.5:1 high compression pistons, V&H sidewinder with open megaphone, accel coils, dyna ignition, 34mm carbs.
Harley Davidson- Turning gas into noise without the harmful affects of horsepower for over 100 years.

Since I have already given you my opinion on jetting those carbs, I expect you are looking for some other opinion? You might want to tell folks you have pod air filters on those carbs as that might make a bit of difference in jetting.

I have them jetted the way you sgguested right now George. When you saw the bike in Ohio it had a 4-1 Kerker and a sport bike muffler which was too restrictive. I have since switched to a V&H sidewinder PCO (competition only  ) and an open megaphone, no baffle. I guess I can put in a baffle if needed. Would the jetting still be the same? I forget what the pilots are but the mains are 140 which is what you said it would need. I have only ridden it about 3 miles since Mid-Ohio so I can't really say if the jetting worked or not. I saw something I have never seen before when I switched the mains. One of the jets was plastic. It looked axactly like a normal main jet except it was white plastic. Maybe someone was real serious about saving weight

I have a pile of the white plastic main jets... don't know who made them but I won't use them. They probably work OK but they just leave me cold.

Try riding the dang bike. The pilot jets will be OK. They are #40s if I recommended them. The 40s are a shade lean with pods but once they warm up, they won't foul plugs. If you want the bike to start and warm up immediately, #42.5 BUT, the larger pilots tend to soot up plugs if you idle a bit.

The jet needles are likely not adjustable so leave them for a bit.

Now, RIDE THE BIKE... take it up to redline. If it pulls redline with no issues, the #140 main jets will be right, won't they hehe???

If the bike can't pull redline, it will bog down at a certain RPM. This means too little gas or too much. To test, pull the choke out some and see if the bogging gets better or worse. If it bogs worse, your mains are too big. If it eases, then you need bigger mains. Go from #140 to #145. I haven't seen a bike using BS34s using larger than #145.

If you have a flat spot, up in the mid-range, become more socially acceptable and find some baffles. You can try raising the jet needles with shims too... Jeff sells them or can get them for the BS34 jet needles and they are precision cut at .5mm making them exactly 1/2 the thickness of one clip position... start with two shims per needle if you have a flat spot and expect to mess around trying to figure out how many shims might be needed to rid the flat spot.

stock needles with pod filters??

42.5 pilot 145 main proper float heights needle 1 richer from middle here in Iowa at 1000 feet elevation humidity and that is a general setting a little variation may be necessary
I use dyno jet kits for the dual taper needles it really helps for rideability and mid range
good luck and don't quit
