Carb Sync & Thanks Wiredgeorge & Others
15 May 2007 21:371982 KZ1000, I think it is a J
Thanks to Wiredgeorge with the coil mod idea, my bike is running. I am buying new plugs which will help, BUT... You have to give it first click choke(or whatever it is). It starts instantly and will eventually idle with the choke in, but chokes down when getting on the throttle, it takes fuel better when choked. With choked, it is hard to keep the idleing down and the RPM's are slow to drop, Number 1 cylinder is about 130 deg. at the pipe and the others are over 200 degrees. I am going to try and do some syncing on the carbs if I can figure this out. When I click on the $1.50 tool I can't find the this item. It is great to at least have the "beast" running. Thanks for any help....

how long has the bike been sitting? kind of sounds like the carbs may have some trash in them, also it will not run right without air filter on

I took off the carbs and put kits in all of them and cleaned and blew out all openings. The petcock was also rebuilt. New air tubes from the airbox(couldn't believe how much easier they are to replace when new) New air filter. New battery and plug wires.
Can the tank be suspended above the bike to feed the carbs and the carbs adjusted individually?
Thanks for any replies......

It is impossible to balance the carbs by adjusting them individually. You must have a four gauge set up.

I finally broke down and bought an aux gas tank from Z-1. Balancing the tank with longer fuel lines was just a pain. You could probably make one easily and just buy the fittings at the auto parts store or hardware store. I opted to just buy one since it's all very neat, has a hanger and a fuel shut off. I hang it right off the garage door track bracket. The guages are reasonable too, but there is a current thread on here somewhere where someone bought individual guages off ebay at like $3 each and made their own set, might search for that.
Here's a link. Make sure if your petcock has 2 fuel lines you get the proper T connection too.
