proper jet settings
10 May 2007 16:34
i have a 78 kz 1000 ltd that i have mikuni bs 34 constant velocity carbs on. it currently has a 130 main and a 40 pilot. with the refrence guid in the filebase here i should be at a 110 main and a 17 pilot. oh yeah forgot to tell ya i have 4-1 vance pipes no baffle and pods. i have had nothing but trouble with fouling plugs and low end wont idle under 1500 rpm or it quits. i just took the carbs apart and soaked in gunk carb cleaner and looked over closely. im assuming these carbs were off of a early 80,s suzuki and thus the pilot and main jet sizes. what are your experianced reccomendations and are the 34,s too big or is the jet sizes all that really matters. also i found a small pin hole on one of the choke boots that attach to the choke bar for starting. how serious is this i belive itllclose up when choke is inbecause of size and location. or am i way off? another question a buddy gave me some 47.5 pilots now i know these are way too rich i believe but why do those have holes on the sides but the 40,s i have in only have holes at the ends of the pilot none on the sides?

Not sure where you got your info re stock jetting but it varies significantly from one BS34 assembly to the next. Without knowing what type assembly you have, it is impossible to give jetting suggestions. As far as the pilot jets, some assemblies came stock with N151.067 pilots which have no holes on the sides and some came stock with BS30/96 type pilots which have holes on the sides. They are pretty much interchangeable as the holes seem to have little performance effect.
