carb clean was created by squints
ok, I got the carbs off (took little while to free it from the air box. Now I am dissassembling it. Is there anything that I should NOT touch and leave it the way it was while taking them apart. And after I have cleaned and reassembled, do I have to synch them?

Lets hope i dont mess this up too much :S

You will have to sync them. How much are you cleaning them? I just took mine completely apart and I'm going to boil them in vinegar, lemon juice and salt.
They need it, the bike sat for 8 years and I have lime and corrosion all inside and out. Here is a link to clean them thoroughly, you might not need this much cleaning. My pics don't show it but all of my jets are limed up.

I'm not sure this will work for you as I already have mine apart with no pics. Well, here goes... On the choke rod there is a flathead screw on the end by the choke lever, take it out. There are 4 phillups screws on the choke rod going all the way across it, holding little clips. Just loosen those and pull the choke rod out. take the black end caps off of the carbs, they are on the ends of the throttle rod. Remove the throttle adjuster just unscrew it so you can get to one of the bolts holding the throttle rod. There are 5 7 or 8mm bolts that need to come off of the throttle rod that goes through all of the carbs. Then tap out the rod from one side, I used a 1/4 6" extension. Then on the motor side of the carbs you wil see 2 phillups screws on each carb take those out. the carbs should be apart now. If you want to take out the needle jets, remove the top of the carbs and then remove the 3 screws in the throttle slide and pull it out, be carefull not to damage the needle jet. Unscrew all jets.. Well, I hope that helps. It's rough with no pics, so I hope this helps a little.. :)

use ziplock bags to keep the 4 carb parts seperated...do not mess with the adjustments if possible. put them back together one at a time and they should be fine. i've done a few like this with great results. good luck.

finally, thank you for the descriptions. I had a cup a joe this morning and went at it. got them apart. Now there is that last copper piece that won't slide out. The one that is inside the chamber that moves up and down as with the throttle.

I have only gone into one carb, and I started with the one that I thought was stuck, I was right. Any thoughts how I can get this thing out? I got it to move a little prying it up with a screwdriver, but stopped not to damage the surfaces much. Another road block.

And just to double check, after cleaning, I just reassemble it the same way and everything should be ok (still needding to be synched). Right?
