I have an 83 KZ 440 that runs well when cold with full choke. As it warms up, I try to take the choke off. It then backfires through both carbs and seems to close the choke on it's own. I have cleaned both carbs (thought I found the problem when the idle jets were plugged - but still the same). I am running pod filters. I have also cleaned and tried a spare set of carbs but had the same problem. This bike sat for a while and had some rust in the tank which I cleaned pretty well. There is no in line fuel filter (just the one on the petcock). Any advice on what to try next?
