Help with Carb ID
29 Apr 2007 19:52
i picked up a '76 Kz900 with a Kz1000 motor. The carbs need to be rebuilt but i don't know if they are KZ900 or Kz1000 carbs.
I don't see an accelerator pump on the bowls and the Idle adjustment screw is on the bottom.
How do I tell what kind of carbs I have?

if the idle adjuster is on top, and the lid is held on with three screws...most likely mikuni vm26's. the screw on the bottom is the fuel idle screw. some have an air idle screw on the side. good luck.

-1)Carb ID info on z1enterprises.com you'll have to look but it is there.
0)Get a factory service manual
1)Check compression
2)Unless carbs are damaged, they will only need cleaning. Save your $(see '1') Gasket kit and tiny O-rings should do the trick.
3)Adequate flow from tank to carbs
4)Correct timing.
5)Good spark.
She'll run!

Do you have air screws up on the sides or pilot mix screws underneath, towards the front or BOTH?
If the carbs only have air screws on the sides, they are from a 78 Z1R (KZ1000D).
