83 kz440 LTD Vacuum petcock
25 Apr 2007 15:22
Hi all,
I just recently picked up this 83 440 LTD and I'm having problems getting it up and running. I cleaned out the carbs, put new plugs on etc... then I realized that the vacuum line from my petcock isn't connected anywhere. I have no idea where this is supposed to connect to. Does anyone know where this line goes?
Thanks,
Yvon

Ok Yvon! I trust you have CV carbs on your bike. Do you see on the carbs there are rubber caps or just one on the right side of the bike? There should be one of those connections not capped off, that is where your vacuum line connects. I have a pic of my 1000 carb and you will see the rubber cap which is a vacuum port on mine.

Hi Yvon,
Wolf's right on the mark, but this diagram might make it a little easier. The vacuum hose is labeled 92069D so you can see exactly where the vacuum port is on the right carb

Thanks Link, I was too lazy to look for that, since there are so many steps to go through just to get that diagram

Thanks guys,
Both my carbs have the rubber plugs on the vaccuum lines so I'm guessing that the previous owner must've just ran the bike on prime.
I'm having a seriously hard time getting this thing to run properly. I can get it to run, but it smokes like crazy and will turn the pipes glowing red in minutes. It's showing symptoms of both running rich and running lean. I've had the carbs apart and totally cleaned, cleaned the petcock, put new plugs on and I have to admit, I'm quite puzzled. I'm going to bring it to my local bike guy and see if he can get it to run.
