kz1000 carbs
17 Apr 2007 15:37
i am new to this forum and was just wondering if anyone could tell some good settings to be at with y carbs? I have a 78 1000 with 28mm carbs w/acccel pump right now i have 130 mains with 17.5 pilot jets bike needs to idle at 14-1500 and will stutter and pop when trying to get going from a stop. bike will pull ok when wide open. also when running below 3000 bike will tend to pop sometimes. i have had this bike for a few years and had had it in the shop for this problem before and the dude sold me a new set of carbs and now i am still having the same problem. also the bike has 4 into 1 header muffler and pods.
thanks,
Tom

He said his main jets are #130s... He said his pilot jets were #17.5 - The 28 pumpers are not stock on that bike and are overjetted... #120 main jets are plenty big. The popping is most likely ignition related. Could also be lack of valve clearance on one or more valves.

thanks guys,
George you said im over jetted you think i should go down to a 120? should i leave the 17.5 in as well or go with a 15? i noticed that my pump diaphram is a little stiff so i will be replacing it. also i dont know the age of the intake manifolds so i think i should replace them as well. I love this bike and have gien it to my wife last year and she learned to ride on it and now she really wants it running well, i tusted a shop to do the work for me and got hosed. now its time for a crash course in carbs. I do all other mechanical work myself but always tried to stay away from carbs

Stay with the #17.5 pilots. Good luck.
