Fuel Additive for Carb Cleaning was created by FrontMan723
What's up guys, and gals? I have searched the forums to find an answer and have seen some reference but no direct answer that I can see.
My question is this - I have a '80 KZ650F with just over 10k on it. While I am not quite ready to rebuild the carbs I was thinking of doing one of those fuel additives to see about getting some gunk out. I was wondering if anyone here has used these and what the best one might be.
Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Blair

I'd have to say that Sea Foam is the prefered "poison" of a good portion of us here, and is also touted as being able to clean up the sludge in the engine oil.

Seafoam worked well for me too. About $7 at the local parts peddler.

Nothing but praise for Seafoam. Been using it for years, in everything from lawn mowers, to trucks, to my KZ. Good stuff.

I used GUNK Gumout as my cleaner, plus it lubes the carbs and cleans the intake valves.

I just bought my 78 KZ650 cheap because though it started and ran, it bogged out at anything more than 1/3 throttle. After reading this thread, I got some Sea Foam, ran it pure into the carbs still it stalled. Let it sit overnight, drained the carbs, filled the tank with a 10% mixture and took it for a ride. After about a mile of barking, I had full throttle. Wicked stuff that I'm putting in all my toys.

Any of the generic fuel injector cleaners will work to clean the carbs, I took the float bowls off some 750 twin carbs, saw they wre all gunked up (and the bike would barely run), poured 1/2 of the bottle of whatever was cheapest fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of gas, ran the tank out (bike started running right also), took off the float bowls again and they were spotless.
As a general rule I think additives are useless, but I make an exception for fuel injector cleaner
