kz1100 carb ?
05 Apr 2007 05:07
i rececntly acquired a '82 kz1100. while cleaning the carbs i noticed that someone had overly tightened the pilot jet, enough to mar the jets. first where can i find new pilots, second how can i tell what size they are and lastly, are the seats that these jets seat into replacabe/repairable.

where to buy:
www.z1enterprises.com
- pilot jet type BS30/96
how to tell size - stamped on jet
can I fix "jet seat" - Not sure how you would get to the seat in the pilot jet well. Not sure how the "seat" could get damaged. Not sure I understand what you are talking about, I guess.

thanks for the input.
as far as the jets go, someone has screwed them in so tight that jets themselves were damaged. damaged to the point where there were slivers of brass hanging from them. as i understand, most needle jets have a seat that matches the profile of the jet itself. and every manual i have ever read states "do not over tighten" as damage to the seat may occur. i have rebuilt many carbs and have never seen jets damaged to this extent. unfortanetly i have never damaged any needles(that can be proven) to this extent so i am unsure if these carbs are even worth the $100 rebuild kit.
lastly while looking over the bike today i noticed that there is a hole in the crankcase almost the size of a quarter, if not bigger which someone has filled with epoxy. so it looks like i wont have to worry about it. i do appreciate your response though, thanks again...

The crankcase hole can be welded. Most decent welders can weld holes in engine cases easily.
The pilot mix screw wells won't really be fixable if they are really messed up... at least I don't know how. Another set of carbs seems in order.
