I recently rejetted my 81 GPZ550, it also has the TK carbs. I found several references to using the small slotted main jets for Keihin (sp) carbs.
My local shop charged $9.95 ea, which I thought was a bit high, but he had them and I didn't.
From reading this forum, the pilot jets are not available anymore. I didn't even look for any.
Changing your needle clip setting, or shimming may be the only option for midrange jetting.

Dyno Jet makes Stage 1 and Stage 3 Jet Kits. They are the ame as the old K&N's of years past. Adjustable needle, drills for the slide, and to remove the stoopid(not a spelling error) caps on the air adjusters. Wotrh looking into. Usually sell on ebay as a kit for 1 and 3 for around $96.00.

LOOK! There's some now! :woohoo:

What Corey said is probably gonna get you the widest range of tune-ability, and very good instructions on how to select the jetting. Luckily, the TK-22 carbs are the easy to tune since they are not CV. There are just fewer variables with them.

The el-cheapo option is to get a set of tiny drill bits and drill them. It's easier than you think, but you need a drill that has a chuck that closes down almost all the way. The cheap Menards tool-shop brand has a drill that works perfectly, and it's only $10 or $15.

The drill bits can be bought at various tool suppliers like Harbor Freight etc.

An in-between option is to get one of the various rebuild kits that come with jets and adjustable needles. (Some do, some don't.) They should be about $15 to $20 each X 4.

Cool loud; Thanks for the tip. I have bits down to about the diameter of a hair. The sets can be purchased in a neat little holder/organizer, from any jewelry or lapidary supply, or online. They will also sell you a nifty Grobet flex shaft grinder/polisher/drill with a Jacob chuck and foot control. They come in REAL handy, as does a visor with a #7 or #10 lens.

Re-read the top, and at $40.00 per jet, they're smoking something that requires an alligator clip, and someone saying as they pass it to another, "here".

Stages are just the level of performance increase, not necessarily jet sizes.

Stage 1 is for stock air box, stock exhaust, and maybe a K&N drop in air filter.
Stage 3 is for pod filters and aftermarket exhaust system.

If you buy a Stage 3, you'll get a Stage 1 kit in there too.

Bump!

Question: I've still got my stock airbox, but 4-1 exhaust and stock jets - do I need to rejet? Should I go all the way like WG keeps suggesting with 2 steps on the mains and pilots? If so - what jets fit the CV TK-26s?

Do Keihins fit?

Lou - you have these on you GPzs, right? Or are they TK-27s..?

Oh..and how does the sizing of the micro drill bits work? a 61 would be .61mm? So if I have size 32 pilots, I need a 34 drill bit to up the size to .34mm? Same for the mains..a 120 main is 1.2mm?

After doing the coil mod, I notice that my bike kinda 'grunts' when I crank the throttle..it has a much louder/rougher sound to it than normal. I want to say it 'bogs' but it still pulls a lot..so it doesn't really lose power - I don't think anyways.

Thanks!
