ZR7 petcock for a KZ650?

Hi all...

I have a 1977 KZ650B1 model I am putting back on the road. The original fuel petcock works OK but has a leak. I happen to have a petcock from a 2000 Kawasaki ZR-7 that just needs a few seals to get back to useable condition.

Can I swap out the old petcock for the ZR-7 model? The old petcock was not a vacuum-style petcock (only a fuel line out). If I plumb in a vacuum return line from one of the carburetor synch nipples will that work? I may run into some fitting issues as the ZR-7 petcock is shorter than the original KZ650 one but I figure I'd see if I could do the swap first before I start to worry about fitting it...
