my bike a 78 kz1000 ltd has been bored out to 1100 and basic mods done to it like electronic ignition, the 40mm mikuni flat slides of course, dyna coils, a kerker 4 into 1, and my problem is not the bike running poorly or anything like that, i love it... its a friggin rocket. but at idle the carbs are making a klacking sound... but ive found that if i raise the idle higher this noise goes away but im idling at like 1700~1900 rpms way too high for my tastes and gas tank capacity.
Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated
thanks

Check it over for vacuum leaks. My 1000 did that after I put the carbs back on after a service. I replaced the intake manifold boots and found one of them had a crack. The problem went away.

You need to learn to enjoy that sound, cause all rs mikuni carbs make that noise. I have a set on my FJ1200 and it klacks too. The keihin flatslides have rollers on the slides so they dont klack as much.

Yeap, thats how it is. Love that sound, got Mikuni TM33 pumpers on mine and that sound opens great comments when peopple hear the klacketi-klack -sound. Even brand new RS´s klack. Mikuni TMR´s are also with rollers so maybe not clacking so much.

40mm flatslides:ohmy: Aren´t they kind of huge:unsure: I got 1109cc, slightly ported intake, very open 4-1 with a Kerker can (50mm baffle)and only 33mm Mikunis. Runs over 200kmh.

Confirmed, learn to enjoy the sound. Call 'em "Clackslides".

40 sounds huge to me as well. I think you normally stick with 36s or so for 1100cc street application. Maybe 38 for drag strip/top end. I've even heard of RS34s for 1100 street bike due to improved torque.

this is a 1327 with more ungodly tricks done to motor than the local law would like .it had 38s on it ,but i took them off becuase it was no fun to drive.my engine builder has a really healthy sleeper 78 kz1000 with a really healthy 1385 that runs like a missile with 36s on it ;)

alright guys thank you very much for the info and approval basically i fogured cant be much wrong, but this bike was a mess when i got it. my father bought it for me as a project to work on to be able to ride next to him on his 75 Z1 that had been done by yoshimura back in the early 80's. his is fast but mine is faster RAWR! but basically after ground up resto including powdercoated frame all new bearings, bushings, and anything else i ran into that was just old. ill try to post pics in the future
