Hey, just got my grandfathers 1980 SR 650, 30k Miles, good condition never been down, just sat for the last 3 years. Took the carbs off and cleaned them up, but when I took off the bowls, (this being my first time doing any work on a motorcycle...) a ball bearing and small brass rod fell from one of the Carb bowls. This model has the accelerator pump on it, I have the book but can not find out where the bearing and rod came from. Really just trying to find a diagram to go by, but can't seem to find a good one online. Any helps appreciated... Really want to get it back together so I can ride again, weathers perfect here in Gainesville, Florida. Thanks,

Ed

Small brass rod might possibly be a float pin but don't know about the ball bearing and know zilch about the accelerator pump version.

Here's diagram from kawasaki.com

The small brass rod and ball are for the check valve in the bowls for the accel pump passage. Each bowl should have them in it and they are usually held in place with a small bent wire type of clip.
They are located in the hole behind the float pin on the rear of the carb( ball first them the brass rod). In the picture above, they would go where there is a hole in the gasket(this hole leads to the nozzle in the carb body). You should have 1 in each bowl for it to function properly. The accel pump rebuild kit usually comes with enough for 1 carb.

Ah... Thanks. Where can I get those (and any other older kawasaki parts...) clips reasonably priced online...? Decided to get new spark cables + coils, 300$!

Thanks again,
Ed.

Maybe my 53yo eyes are going but one of my clips popped out and they are sooo small I had to use a magnifying glass and a pick to install! Be careful, they have wings! :woohoo:
