Best jet size 1978 KZ-1000

Hi,

I have a 1978 KZ-1000 I guess is an A model? It is not an LTD or anything. I have the POD filters and a 4 into 1 Kirker (not sure I spelled that right) exhaust. As far as I know the jets have never been changed. (it came with the exhaust but I put the filters on) I was looking on ebay and saw some POD filter kits and some that came with new jets too. I think they were 117's? Was wondering what the best size would be for my setup.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron and welcome to the forum. I hope you get a response to your question on the forum, because that is exactly my next question for them as well.
I too have a '78 KZ1000A (?) and have exactly the same concern.
The guy who owned my bike, one or two times my predecessor, rejetted the carbs, and I am not sure the jets are right because it fouls plugs in about ten minutes.

Thanks arobsum. What about the needle jets? What do you have/use there?

I have a '78 KZ1000-B2 with stock airbox and exhaust. Previously, WiredGeorge told me that the stock jetting (102.5 mains, 15 pilots) were on the lean side, and recommended that I try 107.5/17.5.

I made the change, and it is running great. But I'm running stock intake/exhaust. So, using these numbers as a base line, now go to this document ( kzrider.com/component/option,com_docman/...d/gid,212/Itemid,49/ ) to calculate new jetting with pods and 4-1 exhaust.

The kit I found on ebay comes with 117's think that would be OK? Here is a link:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&r...=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001

I dunno if the air filters are great but mine have surface rust and don't look good anymore. I just can't quite bring myself to spend the $126 for K&N's just yet :)

Thanks for all the replies.

Howdy, AR15Ron --
What works fine for somebody else's similar setup might not be the best for yours. Also, your existing main jets may have already been up-sized when the Kerker was fitted. Would suggest performing a "plug chop test" to determine whether any change in main jet size may be indicated. :)
