"You smell that? Do you smell that? Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like - victory" Apocalypse now (1979)

Kwakagoose, my other favourite movie aside from Mad Max,
I have just stripped down my carbs and they were full of crap as well (not as bad as kano's), don't know where it came from as both the tank filter and inline were clean :S ,anyway all cleaned , fired up first time, never seen this before though !!!!

has the petrol frozen as it was really cold today.
pure gasoline can not be frozen in normal atmospheric temperature because it need -238* F which is quit impossible in living areas (what i read somewhere).

If gasoline is mixed up with water it can freeze though.

i contacted the manufacturer of tank coating i used havn't got a reply though.

any Canadians had petrol freeze in your carb float bowls?

That stuff in your carbs is nasty looking !

It has to be wicked cold before petrol will freeze - if in fact it ever does. Cant say about the bike because thats in the shed and the shed is covered with snow but it dont ever freeze in the car or the van and its been about -25C here all weekend. I dont think you see that kind of cold in Martha's Vineyard area. I would be thinking either the tank coating or that additive you mentioned. I would think water would tend to settle rather than mix with the petrol. I would also think the engine oil would freeze first but for that to happen it has to be really really cold.

Now... if you have an inquiring mind and a bit of time on your hands you could try a little experiment involving some gas (petrol) from your bike, some water, some of that additive and a few screw cap glass containers and then wait until the wife is out and make up some mixtures and put them in your freezer which should be about -20C.
Might be interesting.
