I've got an 82 kz1000 with CV34's on it and K&N pods. Stock otherwise. When I ride the bike it spits through the carbs now and then, maybe 3-4 times a minute while idling. It does it while hot or cold. I had the carbs sync'd and plugs are good.

thanks in advance

sounds like timing or a valve sticking open?

My '80 KZ1000 would do the same thing less frequently: 1-2 times every so often. What completely solved the problem was running my idle speed up about 75-100 RPM over spec. I didn't use a secondary tach to set it, just the one on the bike. So it may have been idling low and had a tach error. Now it may be correct but just indicating high. Anyway, a tiny turn on your Idle Screw is worth trying.
