No room for air filters
24 Jan 2007 18:46
Ive got a 650 frame with a 750 motor; the engine is so large that is wont allow room for the air filters on the back. Is there a slimmer air filter I can buy somewhere or will I have to fabricate my own?

i saw a pic in the last few days where a square piece of gauze/unifilter foam was just stretched over each of the carb openings and held in place by a spring clamp.
i probably saw it on here, but i can't find it right now.

I was considering just cutting one or two of the filters open and laying it out and making a rectangular filter cover. I dont know if the filters require the scrunched up pattern to be effective, though.

i'd think a flat filter would work as well as a scrunched up pattern if it's kept clean. the scrunched up pattern just takes longer to clog up with dirt.
one of these foam socks might work too (cut to size):

Might there possibly be enough room for the accessory air filter box mentioned in this recent link? Seems like it might be "thinner" than the usual pod lengths.

A stock GPz750 air filter will fit. That's what we used on my nephews GPz750 motor in a 79 KZ650SR project. I'm reasonably sure a stock KZ750 four air cleaner would work as well.

just in case you'd like to see how they compare. the emgo pod filter is 3 1/8" high:
