GPz 550 D1 carb choke flaps

Would it be possible to just cut a gate out of sheet metal? I haven't looked at the gate structure in awhile so i can't remember what they look like out of the carbs.

I've thought about that too, the tricky part is the part where the choke linkage operates it.
