I'm searching for a gauge cluster for my bike.  Extremely outrageous prices on eBay.  I bought a gauge cluster for my 1982 Honda 900F for about $65 on eBay a few years ago, so paying $400 for a set for the 1000 would be a bit shocking, for me at least.

Thanks in advance!

Are you trying to keep it stock or close to stock? Asking because you could use quite a few different Kawasaki meters, but with non-stock you'd have to fab a meter bracket & do some rewiring.

They make these aftermarket at a reasonable price. I have no personal experience with them….

As close to stock as possible.  I bought a KZ 400 gauge cluster and while it looks close, I'm not sure how well it will work.  Redline is the same, but it doesn't have the 160 speedo.  If I can get it apart okay, they do have a new faceplate for it.  I tend to buy things before I need them, and then I find out I should have done more research on it.  I've seen the "replacement" gauges from China, but I am trying to keep my Chinese purchases to a minimum, if at all.  Unfortunately, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and get it from there.

Z1Resto refurbishes 70s style meters. I guess he's still around. There's also a guy in the UK.
From the cross-reference at Partzilla the 70s KZ650s use the same meter bracket, so I would assume those meters could be used. But you may encounter the same problem about pricing. Good sets will be expensive & cheaper ones won't be in great condition.

ps: made in china repros are known to fail.

Well, yeah - there's no need for a 160mph speedo on a KZ400.

To be brutally honest even 120mph is overkill. The 85mph speedo is probably about right.
