BTW...if anyone is interested in this little tid-bit...I emailed Permatex about the issue right before starting this thread (6 1/2 days ago), and I haven't received ANY reply from them whatsoever. I mean, I didn't even get a reply stating that they clearly label it as NOT being alcohol resistant on the label, and that ethanol is ethyl alcohol. Terrible service...I will NEVER buy or use a Permatex product again.

I give another positive user experience with the Sealall. I repaired a weld crack in the bottom of the tank on my 750E about 3-4 years back, and it is still holding strong. I even painted over it, and the paint shows no signs of being damaged by any gas weeping through, so it must be sealing very well. I had first used the JBWeld gas tank sealer (kind of a clay-like texture), and even after prepping the surfaces well it leaked badly. That was when I went to Walmart and found the Sealall for about $3, and I decided to give it a try.

I emailed the company that makes Seal All last week and asked them about the use of it with ethanol enriched gas. They replied within 24 hours and said it will hold up well, and of course added the obligatory "make sure to let it cure completely before use" statement. Next time I am out and see it at a store, I will pick up a tube to have on hand.

Just an update. The Buna N gasket I made is still doing the trick a week and a half later. I may end up making a new gasket for the petcock on the A1 with the stuff if it's needed.

The gas that Permatex is referring to is gas, as in gaseous.
Not gas, as in gasoline.
I'm not surprised that it leaked. The product is not crap. You were just using the wrong product for the job.

"resists common shop fluids and fuels"
That was taken directly from there site. No mention of gas/gaseous at all. I figured gasoline is the most common fuel (if not gasoline-ethanol mix now). They word it that way to give people the impression it will work, without listing specifics, so as not to be liable...not illegal, but definitely not the most honest way to make money...

Sorry Nitro; you are mis-informed. No doubt about it; Clutch is correct - Permatex No. 1 should be fuel resistant. See clip from Permatex website:

Seal-All" works well for sure, used it to make temporary patches on old rusty car gas tanks.
But if you want something permanent and you know somebody in the Aircraft Maintenance Industry ask them if they can get you some "PRC" it will seal and last indefinitely..It is what aircraft wings are sealed with to make them into fuel tanks. I sealed the tank on my bike with it (on the inside, so it is covered with gas all the time) about 10 years ago, still good.
If you don't know anybody who has access to this stuff maybe somebody on here who does, can send you some....
Regards

Here's a manufacturer's list of PRC fuel tank sealants. They look like serious stuff:

Permatex makes excellent products that when applied corerctly, work as advertized.
Thier TDS for the Permatex #1 Form-a-gasket states "The product retains effective properties in contact with water, ethylene glycol, gasoline, motor oil, transmission fluid and sea water."
Are we sure that we are talking about the right product here???
The cure time is genreally greater than 24hrs to resist gasoline. It does work.
Thier best product by far is MOTOSEAL in my opinion.
PEACE

Re: Permatex No 1 Gasket Maker is CRAP!

This was definitely Permatex No 1. I let it sit between 2-3 days before putting gas buck in the tank. We have that lovely ethanol-"enriched" gas here in MD, and the permatex says it breaks down in alcohol. Apparently, they would rather make money off people like me who assume that if it says it is fuel safe, then it is. They dupe the simple people like myself into buying it for that purpose by labeling it with the words "most common fuels", which also avoids liability and false advertisement lawsuits. I'm guessing the leaders of that company don't know the definition of integrity either, because that is just plain GREED. I will NEVER buy or use another product that has a Permatex label on it. There are other companies that make good products as well (loctite is my new favorite).
