installing a used clutch
03 Dec 2006 15:05
I've taken an used clutch out of a spare motor that I want to sell. My stocker is slipping badly and this will fit it.
My questions, the spare has been sitting for probably 20 years but was clean and oily when I took it out of the engine. Since these plates are made to go fast and be hot they should be ok.....
Any concerns on using a clutch that's been sitting that long? If it slips also then I'll have to buy one.
I did check the adjustment on the left side cover and it's good. Also checked the cable. I suspect mine slips because the PO probably put some kind of anti-friction coating in the engine. I've since changed the oil and run it for a while.

With used metal plates I usually scuff them up with a scotchbrite pad to take glaze off. Make sure they are flat.
Check the fiber plates do not have any cracks in them.
