I need an oil pan gasket for my 1000 but having a hard time finding one. I found one but it wa $35, for one damn gasket. I couldn't find one on z1enterprises website. Anyone use gasket maker or sealer and no gasket? Would it be a problem? I know I would have to make sure not to use too much or else the extra will end up clogging the pump.

Making your own gasket for an oil pan would be a pretty involved job. I think I'd just spend the $35 or look for a gasket kit. Vesra used to make kits that were pretty decent. (Not near oem quality, but usable.) I think the oil level would be higher than the gasket surface of the pan, so going without a gasket or using sealer will result in leaks most likely.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Hey, doesn't anybody have a straight answer on this? I'd like a good answer, myself. I live so far out in the boonies that there is no local Kaw dealer within 300 miles that will have one in stock to gouge me for $35.
I guess I would couch the question in more specific terms. Has anybody had experience using High Temp RTV sealer for the crankcase?

I am not a fan of using RTV instead of gaskets. However I have used RTV in a pinch and it has worked. I would recommend using something like Yamabond. It remains flexable and won't come apart like RTV.

Actually, i was going to order a top end gasket kit from Z1, and for less than 9 bucks more you can get a complete engine set.
