Cylinderhead for "Reserve"

I had a black Z1R cylinder head in storage, which I took to the paint stripper the other day and got back today. The paint is almost completely gone. There are just a few small inner corners, but I can get those clean with a small rotating wire brush. I've already lapped the valves and seats. So I have a relatively good cylinder head in reserve. ( We all know: To have it is much better than to need it!)

(( I´ve given the plug threads a little kind of "cleaning cut" with the correct tap M14 x 1,25, so final job is to put on new valvestem seals, springs and valves ))

Greetings, Joe

Just thinking..Why not paint the head black again? Wasn't all Z1R motors painted black.

Sure, all Z1R / D1 / D2 engines were black,... but I only have 2 Z1000 with their bare aluminum engines , ...and for these the cylinder head should be (in an emergency maybe..or if i will find an engine without head...?)

Wookie, perhaps no one would notice as a "carry on" for flight, stuff it in the overhead compartment, hehe. Sorry to hear Joe of Your hot air balloon issues, like a pin-cushion or just out of propane?

Ha, You know Clay, ..Whenever you need the balloons, they don't work...it´s a miracle...hmmm

This morn, i´ve complete the head with the fresh in-lapped valves + springs,..the valve guides have been wery well,..no action was necessary for them, thats alot of luck, and of course, it saves a few bucks also about..

I Love the spring compressor, maybe some left-over tool for the Lancia/Triumph/Peugeot/Fiat etc..Ha. I'd made my similar version out of a simple c-clamp years ago.

I´ve build, or better say, "customized" this clamp for more than 35 years ago, and it still works on most of my overhauled heads good enough,..soo good, that i´ve never had the need for another one...
( On my Chevy heads, few yeas ago also, i don´t need the "lenght-adaptor), (silver part on foto), i used that bare,..the slot has been absolue ok for the valve stems...)

We're birds of the same feather then. I've been modifying crap for years too!  . A long 3/8 socket works too, just have to cut a bit out of it to access the keepers, haha
