hydraulic clutch conversion for stock side cover

I went down the rabbit hole of designing a conversion plate to run a Concours hydraulic slave on my 82 1000k this past weekend. Initially I was thinking of a plate style sprocket cover and standoffs like you see in aftermarket kits, but I stumbled upon an American Classix kit (no longer made it seems) on eBay and realized that there is enough room to mount a hydraulic slave inside the stock sprocket cover.

The adapter plate route looks feasible to me. This is a 82 1000k with 530 conversion.

Has this been done before? It's a bit difficult to search the forum, but most seem to recommend the cable style retrofit kits or the complete replacement of the sprocket cover.

Interesting idea!  Is there an easy way to route the hydraulic line to the inside?  Let us know what you come up with for a final install.

Check out page 23 of my build thread, this just needs the original lifter and a small amount of material removed from the stock cover

Ports are currently facing down, but can be rotated 180°. Unfortunately, hole spacing prevents the bleeder from pointing up, but it has to be bled with the cover removed anyways, so 🤷.

I'm planning on routing the clutch hose through the area where the stock cable is routed.

Wookie, I did not initially make it that far in your build thread; very nice solution!

I also spent a little time looking at 650 and mk1 1000 clutch covers I had on hand; looks like the same idea works for those as well!

Sorry Guy, I remembered the photos of the slave cylinder and bracket but forgot about the later photo with that handsome model sitting on the bike ! - that one shows the cover installed

Doesn't make sense to me to retain the stock cable driven assembly, and those kits aren't cheap either, if you buy something name brand.

I did the same to my Z1r, the GPZ900R slave fits to the original clutch cover with very minor modification I posted this on forum approx 12years ago). The other Bike "hybrid GPZ1100" has a different mechanism to the clutch rod using ball bearings/ cable, I actually found this to be a better system
First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

This is the way I plan on going. there really shouldn’t be an increase in friction if the screw actuator is clean, they are about 99% efficient.
