Moisture gets into the crankcase via condensation, about the only way to prevent that is to keep it at the same temp all the time.
Taking it on long rides will normally evaporate all the water from the crankcase.
I ran 20w-50 in my 750 twin for awhile, then switched to Rotella 10W-40 and don't notice any difference (except it costs less)

if it looks like milkshake-- you have water in the oil.
just a little evaporates with engine heat but a lot will plug the oil pump after it gets churned and mixed up.
20/50 in summer 10/40 in winter
use motorcycle specific oil due to sheer factor. Auto oil does not handle the transmission sheer and lubrication value goes away in a matter of just a couple miles. even if it still looks like honey.
we had some people next door and the kids would fill the crankcase of his bike with the hose as they were playing. Big mess more than once.

I have to disagree with that (and I have the research to back it up), that's just something the oil companies say in order to get you to spend the extra $$ for their so called "Motorcycle specific oil"
Actual research published by MCN is at the link below.
MCN article
And keep in mind that if that were true you would certainly notice it, the oil would be so thin you would loose oil pressure and when you drained the oil it would run like water.
I don't know about anyone else, but when I drain the oil out of my bike after 2000 miles, it is still thick.
I forgot to mention that a "lot" of members use automotive oil in their bikes, I'd almost bet that combined we have over a million miles of experience with automotive oil in KZ's
