As I understand it, the reason it's called an 'Italian Tune-up' is that many people who own Italian sports cars (Ferraris, Lamborghinis, perfomance Alfas) buy them, and just drive them around normally - but they're highly strung sports cars, and the engines are designed to be thrashed around. If you drive your Lamborghini to the shops and work and never give it any beans for a prolonged period of time, carbon will build up and the engine will eventually run poorly. If you take it to a specialist - even the dealer - part of the service will be to put the engine through its paces - it will make sure the engine is working OK, and the hard driving will blast out the residue that normally just sits there with normal driving.

I was going to say an Italian tune up consists of this : Ignore oil/filter changes for 40 years

When I went to Italy 30 years ago my wife's uncle had a beautiful orange Lamborghini tractor, when I asked him how it was for maintenance, he mentioned he only "tops" up the oil, it was a mid 1960's model. I believe he still owns it.

AWESOME!

My Dyna 2000 limiter is set at 10.5K, and I love to cruise her between 6.5K and 8K.

The engine is silk smooth at 8.5K. but am uncomfortable holding rpm's very long inside the red zone...though I really don't know why.
