Fire dammaged 1973 Z1 engine. was created by kzstreetfighter71
So on a whim that might have been fulled by a few bottles of cobra beer i bought a fire damaged Z1 engine that was on ebay one night, i'd say it wasnt on long and was miss labeled as "Kawasaki Z900 (1978) Engine SPARES REPAIR" the engine numbers are just under the 5000 mark. So i noticed a few things that definitely made it a more than standard engine rebuild which made me hit the buy now button. What im hoping is that some one on here either knows someone, read a thread that a member had or had a hand in rebuilding this engine them selves? here is a Pic of the far side of the lump that has a hydraulic clutch conversion with a clutch plate by Pro-lights electrical and a 12mm off set sprocket so it most likely had a 170 to 180 real wheel, any help on this would be much appreciated. Angus.

It looks like you have a "hot" engine.
    I advise gloves and caution.
Did you ask seller ? They will have the best info.

The valve cover is not from a Z1 engine.  It looks like KZ1000.  Can you show a photo of the lower right corner of the engine?

Edited to add that one of the two head stud nuts showing in the first photo is the tall top hat type used on Z1 engines.  The other looks to be the later style used on Z1A and B.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Correct the valve cover is not a Z1 but the head seems to be as it has 6mm exhaust studs and the ports for carb balancing that the early heads had.
And the later heads were missing.

    The jugs are 903cc

The engine stamp plinth or plate for the want of a better word on the early Z1's didnt have a lip if im correct? at what number did they introduce the lip on that plate? I worried the cases might be a re-stamp.

Ah ok thats reassuring i thought it was earlier than that, is there any other distinguishing features on the early cases? outside of the actual stamp i cant find anything online.

Started on the top end and as i figured there are a bunch of after market parts going on here. To start with these near brand new looking camshafts look like web cams, can anyone identify them? They have ape adjustable cam sprockets.

The vin stamp is not factory.
The case bolts were changed, I'll think about it at dinner.
