I added shorter sport handle bars to my KZ900 and now the clutch cable is bunched up and kinked because of the excess length. Does anyone have a part number on a shorter version. What have others done when you switched to a drag bar....

Thanks!!

You could measure your current cable & figure out the overage, then check Z1Enterprises.com.  Z1 has measurements.
The link below is for a stock type cable w a suggestion for a shorter one, but I would measure beforehand.
When checking the overage, secure the cable to the bars & turn the bars side to side to check.
Then buy a cable that's already available or have one made.

OEM 78 Z1R cables. But, don't trust the cheap ones on ebay, I wasted money twice buying so-called  stock Z1R clutch cables.
One of them, I did not care, I cut it up in 4 pieces and sent it back to the seller. And wrote now it's shorter  .
Did not care about the money! I even refused his partial refund! Just to be a smart ass!
Not 100% sure? But in the past I seen KZ400 cables will work also?
Or of course make one custom fit. A good tig welder can weld a steel barrel end on to cable. I have made cables in the past.

54011-070 The O.E.M. Kawasaki Z1r clutch cable is the best cable for low bars or Superbike bars. I can't believe what people are getting for that cable on Ebay!!!!! I thought I was getting stupid money for them back in 2010 when I sold both of my spare ones for 55 dollars each!!!!! Now they are selling for over 100 bucks!!!!!

The O.E.M. Kawasaki cables are miles ahead of motion pro cables quality wise!!!!

If you wanna save some money and not wait around for shipping you can shorten the cable. Its not too hard to do and you get the perfect length cable that way. Most of my bikes have cables i have shortened in this fashion.

You are correct Doc! Of course OEM are of great quality! I have seen those prices! Maybe part of OEM price is resto and original with the white part #'s on outside casing. But I would never pay that price myself. I will make one when I got time. I'll shorten the casing, weld a barrel on. In past, I have used 1/4" brass piece, then brazed the cable to it. But thinking steel and tig weld for long term strength. I started doing that in the 80's knowing that the Z1R's had the original style Daytona / Euro bars!

I have a 77 650 B1 that I put drag bars on and still running the standard length clutch cable on it without issues.  Not saying this is true for a 900 but it works for my bike.
