Why is the clutch different from a shaft drive to a chain drive and can they be interchanged (1979 1000).

I suspect it's because of the drag caused by the shaft drive. Shafts rob power.

Shafty bikes are more commonly toured.  Pushing a big barn door ahead of the bike puts load on the drivetrain.

well the springs are smaller and the friction plates have a smaller diameter so imo the advantage is not worth the hassle of fabing a clutch pushrod (shafty is thicker and shorter) in case anyone wanted to know
