By spinning freely do you mean no getting any compression? It does try to turn over with kickstart

Thats good news, as long as there is no"grinding" feeling while trying a slow kick. have you tried to pull the starter out to see if it is spinning freely on the button? it might come down to pulling the casing off, you will need too to see whats happening properly...

I cracked it open a little earlier today. To have a look around. Everything looks good but there’s metal shavings where the stator. Goes. Not much but enough to tell me something ain’t right. I could tell where it’s coming from bit I’m thinking it’s the needle bearing. I’m gonna start dissecting this evening

So I cracked the cover off yesterday evening so I could possibly see what is making all the racket, but nothing stands out. everything looks fresh and new except for a little bit of metal shavings. I’m in the middle of taking off the fly wheel and clutch but what I’m doing doesn’t seem to be working. Before I take the clutch off do I need to free up the chain and starter? And where do Latch the puller while I’m trying to remove clutch ? Where. I might have watched and read about too many ways to go about this and might be mixing them all up. Thanks in advance for any guidance. Here’s a pic of the guts

Could it be me just holding the starter button too long? Cause when trying to start the bike sometimes I held it down for a couple seconds or 7. But Once it started with the noise I’ve only tried it one other time

Were the metal shavings steel or aluminum? and have you tried rotating the engine with your hand on the kick start to see if there is anything grinding or getting hung up? 7 Sec is wee bit long for a start, 5 pumps of the pistons is what i go by as a rule of thumb. Pity there is no one else with a similar bike chiming in..

There’s no restrictions with the kick start. When it started acting up I was using the kickstart to see if I was getting fire and had compression. I’ll have to check on the shavings though. It almost feels like sand to the touch that’s how small they are. There only inside where the stator goes. Is aluminum magnetic? And which one would be worse

well steel would be worse, it could mean a part malfunction somewhere and no aluminum is not magnetic but if if its only sand like, it sounds fairly safe to me.. have you tried turning over the starter now that the cover is off for 2 seconds?

No sir. I haven’t tried turning it over. I didn’t know that I could. And now I know what I’m about to do in the next couple minutes lol
