I’ve got a 1978 kz200 I came across a little while back that has 500 miles on it but had been sitting up for a couple decades. When trying to start it up, it goes to turning over then makes a grinding/ clacking noise.

Sounds like a starter clutch problem.

I didn’t know for sure and needed some opinions. The bike only has 500 miles on it and I wasn’t wanting to go into the motor any more than I had to. Would this effect the actual clutch? I can shift in a d out of all gears, but when I’m gear and pull the clutch to move it around I get nothing. I can hear and feel the that it’s pushing the rod in but that’s all I get

Hey, what Nessism is saying that in order for your starter motor to engage your crank to turn you engine over there is a starter clutch to engage and release when you start. This system can fail easy enough in older unused bikes. The starter clutch has nothing to do with your actual clutch, below is a pic of the system.

Ok thank you. For the help. I’m still trying to figure out how to maneuver around on here. I’ve lost 2 pretty long messages that had a lot of background of what I’d done with the bike so far and was getting frustrated. That’s why the short entries sorry. I’ve tried to post pictures of the before and after but have no clue where rose went lol

post from a computer, laptop or tablet if you can and under where you type there is an Attachments icon, press it then add files then the insert all tab and it will drop the url code into your message then submit, that will get you sorted. and never mind the pic of the gpz1100 i was just using it an example and it posted by mistake.

Lmao!! I think I got it. Didn’t mean to post so many and no telling how I got a couple upside down. You have to at least 2 % smarter than what your working with and I think I’m lacking
