cylinder studs was created by havakaw
So what is the best way to remove the cylinder studs? I want to change mine out as I believe they have stretched and wont keep the head tight correctly. Please don't say take the motor to a machine shop and let them do it. Thank you.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationYou need a stud extractor tool that will grip the stud as close to the bottom near the case as possible
This design is best.

I bought a Chinese cheapy version like this and it worked. The serrated teeth bit into the stud and made deep gouges. No big deal if you plan to replace the studs but not ideal if reusing. When the studs get corroded in place I'm not aware of any non intrusive way to remove them.

I would get a tool like ZED shows above .
I paid the long dollar years ago for mine from KZZONE ( APE ) But well worth it for getting stubborn studs out.
Studs are junk after removal , but it forces you to replace them , which is a good idea anyway at that point of a total rebuild.
Head nuts need to be replaced periodically, ( Not every time ) as they wear out too especially if using Heavy duty studs with higher torque values.

I used a tool like Zed1015 posted. It didn’t gawl up the studs to bad. I found a used old school craftsman. Soaked the studs with liquid wrench for about 10 days while I waited for the tool to arrive. Twice a day I struck the tops of the studs to shock them to help break the bond. All came out clean. Make sure to grip the stud just above the case.
